The core of the Freespace® motion solution is the Freespace MotionEngine. It performs the essential motion processing functions to create accurate and highly responsive in-air pointing and motion control applications. The Freespace MotionEngine offers an optimized feature set, including:
- Intelligent motion algorithms that interpret natural motions and translate these into precise motion information including cursor coordinates and motion tracking data.
- Compatibility with an increasing number of low-cost, off-the-shelf MEMS inertial sensors from multiple leading suppliers.
- Multiple sensor configurations including five-axis and six-axis motion sensing which allow designers to make appropriate tradeoffs between cost and performance.
- Flexibility to use cursor position and motion data including linear acceleration, angular position, and angular velocity to create novel applications.
- A standards-based HID interface to the device so that applications can access motion data without requiring a kernel driver.
The proprietary software and algorithms in the Freespace MotionEngine are built upon Hillcrest's rich patent portfolio. The Freespace MotionEngine offers these functions:
- Motion sensing interpretation
- Sensor fusion
- Advanced motion processing
- Digital signal processing
- Power management
- Host Interface (SPI, USB)
- RF interface and control (select models)
- User interface I/O (buttons, LED, scroll wheel)
Delivery Options
The Freespace MotionEngine is an embedded software solution available as a software license or through the purchase of pre-programmed Freespace Sensor Modules. The software delivery option allows customers to program devices with the Freespace MotionEngine at the factory. The module delivery option allows customers to quickly and cost-effectively integrate a complete solution that includes the Freespace MotionEngine and microprocessor together with MEMS inertial sensors.
